The 1200+ Km Bike Trip --- Day3- Pakhi-Joshimath To Badrinath and Mana Badrinath and Mana : Joshimath : At the Gurudwara  we woke up early, freshened up, had some tea & snacks, deposited the beddings etc, gave some  donation and started our journey towards Joshimath. We started our journey at around 6:30 am. The way was quite steep and it was raining heavily . The way was quite picturesque, with Lush Green Mountains all around, clouds passing by you and a deep gorge on one side. The ride was just awesome. The road  is steepest as you reach the Vishugad Hydro Power Plant. The road is at its curvaceous best near the Vridh Badri Temple. We kept riding in the rains and again got completely  drenched. By the time we reached Joshimath, it was already  7:30-8am and the heavy rain had turned into a drizzle. We thought that we would have our breakfast at some restaurant at Joshimath and then move further. At a roadside restaurant in Joshimath main market ...

Fun On Wheels -- Bike Trip -- Delhi/Gurgaon-Badrinath-Valley of Flowers-Hemkund Sahib Hello World!!! We all seem to be getting engulfed into our monotonous daily work routines. We seldom get a chance to fulfill our long cherished desires. This is a travelogue that collates, cherishes and shares the series of events that unfolded when we embarked upon our maiden 1200+ km voyage on wheels. It was start of August 2019; the rains had already blossomed onto its fury of downpour. We realized that mid of the month we have two holidays mid-week. What it meant was if we somehow snuggle in 3 days leave, clubbing it with weekends we get 9 days off. This was the best opportunity to plan a vacation. It was our long cherished desire to go on a long trip on our Bikes (Motor Cycles). It was the best opportunity to fulfill this   wish. My travel readings suggested that Mid August (the rainy season) was the best time to go for a trip to Valley of Flowers as in monsoons the flowers bl...

Badrinath – Abode of Lord Vishu

Image
Badrinath-Abode of Lord Vishnu Badrinath Temple : Badrinath or Badrinarayan is a 15 m tall Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Temple and the town is one of the four Char Dham and Chota Char Dham Pilgrimage sites. The Temple is also one of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Vishnu. The temple also finds its mention in ancient religious texts like Vishnu Purana and Skanda Purana. Badrinath Temple, located on the right bank of Alaknanda, has a modern look with its colorful “Singhadwara” (main entrance gate), but it dates back to the 8 th century when it was built by Adiguru Shankaracharya. It has been renovated several times due to damages done by Earthquakes and Avalanches. It is believed that under Buddhist influence the image of Badrinath ji was thrown into the Alaknanda River. It was later retrieved and reinstated by Shankaracharya during the Hindu Revival that followed . The head priest, or Rawal at Badrinath is traditionally a Nambudiri Brahmin from Kerala. The Rawa...
