Sweet Water Lake Arambol

We were on our trip to Goa; we had chosen Candolim, North Goa as our place of stay between 27th February 2022 and 1st March 2022. This was the time we explored the Sweet Water Lake Arambol also referred to as Arambol Sweet Water Lake.

While planning for the trip to North Goa, we had put Sweet Water Lake Arambol as a must visit destination. This was due to the fact that Sweet Water Lake Arambol was suggested to be as a serene destination which had a conglomeration of a Sweet Water Lake, lush green Hills and Beach in close vicinity. 

The official name of the lake is "Vagkolam", but the locals prefer calling it by its nick name, Sweet Water Lake. We were told that the water of the Lake originates in natural hot springs from within the Goan jungles. Hills and the Coconut groves surround the Lagoon.

The beach in the vicinity is known as Kalacha Beach. The headland around the Sweet Water Lake is the launching point for Paragliding. One could ask about the Paragliding Operators in the nearby shacks. These operators would take interested parties to top of the headland for the Paragliding Adventure. The locals told us that one could enjoy Paragliding for Rs.2000, between noon and 6 pm.

Beach Beds are available for use at the Sweet Water Lake for Rs.100 each. Food items, beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic both) are also available. Normally People come over to this place to enjoy the serenity and spend some quality time with friends and family.

The locals told us that there is a 500 year old Banyan Tree, the only banyan Tree in Arambol, where one could indulge in meditation. As told to us the Banyan Tree was 30-45 minutes of hike away from the Sweet Water Lake. It was also told that on the route to the Banyan tree there is a place which has mud deposits. The mud is believed to have medicinal properties hence many people take mud bath and apply the mud over their face and body parts.
As we were with a kid so we skipped the Trek to the Banyan Tree.

How to reach Sweet Water Lake Arambol:

Sweet Water Lake Arambol is towards the northern part of Goa. It is near the Arambol Beach. It takes less time to reach the Sweet Water Lake if you are staying somewhere in North Goa and travelling from there. Having said that it is well connected to any part of Goa. Normally People hire a Taxi/Cab or a Two wheeler for their Trip to Sweet Water Lake/Arambol area.
In general Goa is well connected to the world via Goa International Airport. It is also connected to various other Indian States and Cities via road and railways. Major Railway Stations being Margao and Vasco-da-Gama.

Sweet Water Lake Arambol is towards the Northern part of Arambol Beach. It is around 2 km from the Arambol Beach and takes around 20-30 minutes to reach there. One has to walk along the Arambol beach towards its Northern end. From the Arambol Beach this area is towards the right if you are facing towards the Sea. The Northern end is easily recognizable by the prominent jagged rocks (encircled in red in the snap below).

As you reach the Northern end of the beach you have to take the stairs and then take a left turn via the narrow market. The market has all kinds of shops including shops selling food items, tattoo shops, shops selling souvenirs & clothes etc. As you keep walking along the market you reach a point where you see the jagged rocks towards your left in close vicinity.

Some more distance away you step down towards the Kalacha Beach. This area is very rocky full of slippery rocks so one has to be extra cautious so as to avoid slipping and falling down.

Walking along the beach, crossing the shacks, one could see a small wooden bridge like structure made of wooden flanks. This bridge in a way kind of joins the headland to the beach. Just across the Bridge you would see a lake this is the Sweet Water Lake.

Best Time to Visit Sweet Water Lake Arambol:

As locals suggested best time to visit Sweet Water Lake is around the year except between May to October due to the monsoons. Goa experiences scorching heat between the summer months of April and Early June, this is the time that people generally avoid visiting Goa. Visiting the Lake is a soul nourishing experience.
