The 1200+ Km Bike Trip --- Day5- Rest at Ghangharia
Rest at Ghangharia:
On Day 4 we had slept early firstly to take rest after trekking around 30 km in a day and secondly we had a plan to get early and start our trek to Hemkund Sahib. We had thought that we would start our trek latest by 4:30-5 am in the morning. The trek to Hemkund Sahib from Ghangharia is a 6 km moderate to difficult trek. It takes anywhere between 4 to 6 hours to complete the trek.
It was round 3 am when it started raining heavily. The downpour was so heavy that we heard pilgrims were advised not to move towards Hemkund Sahib until it stops raining.
We were still optimistic so we started to get ready for the trek, hoping that the downpour will stop soon.
At around 5 am the rains slowed down a bit. We thought we could start our journey towards Hemkund Sahib.
As soon as we started moving we realized that due to the rain the stony path has become extremely slippery. Other than that we also realized that due to excessive exertion on the previous day we were still feeling tired. The trek being bit steeper and difficult the tiredness on the trek was even more profound. Being extra cautious to avoid any injury or sprain due to the slippery path, overcoming tiredness we had moved some distance, when it again started raining heavily.
We decided to abandon the thought of trekking today firstly we did not wanted to get injured in trekking in heavy rains and secondly we did not wanted to take any more exertion that may put us in severe tiredness.
We went back to the Gurudwara Sri Govind Dham to retire and spend the rest of the day taking rest and collecting some more information on Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers.
The information we gathered on Hemkund Sahib and Valley of flowers have been summarized in my blogs on Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers. If you interested in knowing details around Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers please visit my blogs, links to the blogs added below for reference.

At the Gurudwara Sri Govind Dham we back to the dormitories to take rest. We had Langar* at the Langar hall for Lunch and Dinner. We also had also had occasional Tea and snacks and spent the day to reenergize and rejuvenate ourselves for the next day's trek to Hemkund Sahib.
*Langar- Langar is the term used in Sikhism for the community kitchen in a Gurudwara where a free meal is served to all the visitors, without distinction of religion, caste, gender, economic status or ethnicity.
We planned that on the next day we would vacate the dormitory, deposit our luggage at the Cloak Rooms, have some Tea, snacks etc and start the trek to Hemkund Sahib as early as possible.
While returning from Hemkund Sahib we would collect our luggage from the Cloak room and start our downhill journey towards Pulna. We would take our bikes from Pulna, collect the luggage left at the Cloak room of Gurudwara Sri Gobind Ghat and move towards Joshimath and halt there for the night before moving ahead. Little did we realize at that point that this plan will also be materialized as per Nature's will and not ours.
