Camping at Three Cliffs Bay - Part4

Camping at Three Cliffs Bay - Part4 : 6 and 7th September 2014, Until now you read how we started our Camping Trip and Reached Swansea (read  here ), then how after a long detour, we finally reached our Camping Ground at Three Cliffs Bay (read  here ) and then later how we reached the beach, trekked up the mountain to reach the top of Three Cliffs and returned back to the Camping ground by late evening (read here ). By the time we reached the Camping Ground it was already dark. It was time to ignite the Barbeque. I brought the Barbeque Bricks on which we placed the Barbeque. Everyone was around the Barbeque, trying their own ingenious ways of igniting fire. I and Gilu brought in some dry grass so that it could catch fire easily. Finally with all the efforts put in by all of us the Charcoal in the Barbeque started burning. Gilu put the utensil we had brought to cook food on the Barbeque. This pan was filled up to the brim with water. The intention was to boil water that could l...

Camping at Three Cliffs Bay - Part3 : 6 and 7th September 2014, Until now you read how we started our Camping Trip and Reached Swansea (read  here ) and then how after a long detour, we finally reached our Camping Ground at Three Cliffs Bay (read here ). As we started laying down our Tents at the second site, we started liking it more. We started discussing among ourselves that we could have sprained our backs if we would have laid the Tents at the slope (first site). Probably the heavy winds might have uprooted the Tents as well. It is human nature I suppose, one settles down with the option one gets and starts liking it eventually. Anyhow we started to put our Tents in position. Our (Mine and Gilus) Tent was a dome shaped Tent and was put upright quickly. This trip being our second Camping Trip, we had already gained a bit of experience in quickly bringing up our Tent. One our Tent was laid, I started helping Vishi and his friend in bringing up their Tunnel shaped Tent. In the me...

Camping at Three Cliffs Bay - Part2 :- 6 and 7th September 2014, Until now you read how we started our Camping Trip and Reached Swansea. If not, read here . Once we collected all the items needed for camping at the market near the Swansea Railway Station, we were all set to move towards the Swansea Bus station. We had to board a bus that would take us to our Camping ground. It would take us 40 minutes more to reach the Camping ground. We started moving towards Swansea Bus Station. Vishi had the latest smartphone with 4G network. He started looking at the road maps and started guiding us. We followed the maps and Vishi's instructions for some time, but looking at the buildings and houses around us it was becoming evident that we were on the wrong path. It felt like that we were heading away from the Bus Station. I suggested that we should enquire from the passing by pedestrians. They being locals would know the way to the Bus Stand. Gilu took the lead and started enquiring about the...

Camping at Three Cliffs Bay

Camping at Three Cliffs Bay :- 6 and 7th September 2014, The Trip was Vishi's brainchild. He did all the planning and bookings for the Trip. Vishi was my colleague and friend. We had previously shared an apartment at London. Then I was a bachelor now I was married to Gilu (nick name I gave my wife) and lived in a separate apartment. Vishi had also moved out to a new place. We had invited Vishi quite a few times at our new apartment. We spent all day and all night chit-chatting and having fun.  I, my wife and Vishi had all grown up in Dehradun and hence had a common point for conversation. I remember we had so many tales to share. Somehow I realized people who grow up at a place gel well, and hence I coined the phrase for all Doonites (residents of Dehradun)" Once a Doonite always a Doonite ". Read more about Dehradun during my growing up years at my blog Dehra as I Knew . Vishi had meticulously planned the Trip. He had a long cherished desire of a camping trip. He had a...

Dehra as I Knew

Dehra as I Knew :- It was start of summers (April-May) 1989, when we arrived at Dehradun. My father being on a transferrable Govt. job was transferred from Mysore (now known as Mysuru) to Dehradun. I was small kid then, but memoirs of Dehra have been imprinted in my subconscious and will be with me for a life time. I still remember, the day we arrived at Dehradun was a sunny day. My  Mausaji ( my mother's sister's husband )  was there at the railway station to receive us. Mausaji and his family used to live in a place called Badshahi Bagh , near Vikas Nagar , which was around 1-2 hours away from Dehradun. Mausaji was a very resourceful & helpful person and had arranged for an accommodation for us. This accommodation was a house built by Awas Vikas in Indra Nagar. Indra Nagar was a well planned residential colony. Back then Indra Nagar was considered far from the heart of the city and was still considered to be on the outskirts of Dehradun.  As the train arri...
