Chandak - Sublime Beauty:
Chandak is a hill, which is around 8kms from Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand). This place provides an exhilarating & panoramic view of the Saur/Sour Valley and the snow capped mountain ranges. The place is famous among the tourists and the locals for its sublime beauty. People come over to this place to capture the beauty of the Sour Valley and the mountain ranges in their memory and camera lenses. The place is also famous for hang gliding.
Places to visit in and around Chandak include Mostamanu Temple, Chandak View Point, Meghna Restaurant/ Café on the rocks, Magnesite Factory, Vardani Mata View Point etc.
Chandak witnesses snowfall between the months of December to March. Summers are comparatively pleasant.
Other than the motorable road, there is also an old trekking route from Pithoragarh that people used to take to reach Chandak.
On the motorable road as you start your journey from Pithoragarh, you cross the Vardani Mata View Point almost midway. As you move ahead you come across a Jail complex. Work on this Jail Complex has been abandoned. Further ahead crossing the forest department check post you see the Magnesite Factory. After travelling for some more time you cross Meghna Restaurant/ Café on the rocks complex to finally reach Chandak.

Mostamanu Temple - Chandak:-
The famous Mostamanu Temple dedicated to the deity Manu is located around 2 km from Chandak. The road from Chandak to Mostamanu Temple, via the small Chandak market area, passes through the lush green and dense Deodar Forests. You would cross the PGCIL Power station before reaching the Temple.

The Temple has a big campus and provides a view of the town, the Soar Valley and the mountain ranges that leaves the viewer spellbound. The peace, silence and the serene atmosphere of the Temple is enough to rejuvenate your body and soul. A big fair (Mela) is organized here in the month of August.

A large iron swing can be found in the Temple Campus. We were told that this swing is revered by the locals as the 'Wishing Swing'. Th visitor/devotee boards the high clamped iron swing, gives it a push, closes his eyes and makes wishes. It is a belief that the wishes get fulfilled. Hence you would see queues of visitors waiting to board on the Swing and make a wish.

Chandak View Point - Chandak:-
Just after the Chandak market area there is a way that takes you to the Chandak View Point. A small half a kilometer hike via the Deodar trees takes you to the Chandak View Point. This is point which is visited by visitors to have a panoramic view of the valley and the mountain ranges. This point is also famous for hang gliding. There is big wooden cross put in place on the rocks present at the top of the Chandak View Point.

Meghna Restaurant/ Café 'On The Rocks' - Chandak:-
Meghna Restaurant and Café 'On The Rocks' complex is just before the Chandak market on the Pithoragarh - Chandak road. This is a popular eating point among the locals and the visitors. People come over to this place to spend quality time with their family and enjoy the food. Other than enjoying the food the place gives a panoramic view of the Soar Valley and the mountain ranges. You can capture some scintillating sweeping pictures and videos.

Magnesite Factory- Chandak:-
While travelling from Pithoragarh to Chandak as one crosses the forest department checkpost you would see the Magnesite Factory. People stop by on the way to Chandak to have a look at the factory.
Vardani Mata View Point - Chandak:-
On the way from Pithoragarh to Chandak almost midway you see a magnificent view point known as the Vardani Mata View Point. We were told that the view point is named after the nearby Vardani Mata Temple. This View Point also provides some stunning panoramic view of the Soar Valley and the mountain ranges. People stop by at this place to take pictures and spend some time here.

Best Time to Visit Chandak :
July onwards there are rains and people avoid this season as it is a landslide prone area and in the rainy season you may encounter landslides due to which you may get stuck at a place.
Tourists most often visit during summers.
How to Reach Chandak from Delhi :
Delhi- Tanakpur-Pithoragarh -Chandak.
There are busses from Delhi to Pithoragarh. Taxis ply between Pithoragarh and Chandak.
Train Route: Delhi- Kathgodam and then by Road Route to Chandak.

Pithoragarh to Chandak: 8 km
