Camping at Three Cliffs Bay - Part5

Camping at Three Cliffs Bay - Part5:

6 and 7th September 2014,

Until now you read how we started our Camping Trip and Reached Swansea (read here), then how after a long detour, we finally reached our Camping Ground at Three Cliffs Bay (read here), then later how we reached the beach, trekked up the mountain to reach the top of Three Cliffs and returned back to the Camping ground by late evening (read here), then cooked our dinner over fire, chit-chatted about "Ghosts & Haunting Stories", had dinner and went to bed. Woke up to start the day in a manner as we had always dreamt of ever since childhood- "A day starting in lush green farmlands surrounded by meadows" (read here).

After returning from the woods, we quickly dismantled our Tents and packed everything in our rucksacks. My Jack Wolfskin rucksack was stuffed and fully packed with our clothing, quilt, utensils, sleeping mats etc. Everything was properly packed within the rucksack or fastened on the exterior via the straps on the rucksack. The rucksack must have weighed around 15 kg. Vishi and his friend also dismantled their Tent and packed their backpacks.

We started moving towards the reception. We had already disposed our bin bags and kept the fire bricks in place. Once at the reception we completed the formalities and now it was time to say bid adieu to The Three Cliffs Bay Camping ground. It was the best camping site I had ever visited.

It was time to trek towards the beach. We started to descend the hill via the stony path. After trekking a mile or two were at the foothill. We could see the sea and the Three Cliffs. The sea water and the waves had receded back almost a kilometer inwards. Now the Three cliffs were not anymore submerged in sea water. The Three Cliffs had a kind of tunnel underneath them. We decided we would trek till the Three Cliffs, pass through the tunnel and then have fun at the beach.

From the foothill we started walking towards the Three Cliffs. We eventually again crossed the river from the area which had the stepping stones. It was difficult to walk on the sand with the heavy loads, but there were no signs of tiredness in any of us. Probably the thought of crossing the Three Cliffs via the Tunnel underneath them and then having fun at the beach had motivated and fascinated us to such an extent that we were not feeling tired.

Finally the Three Cliffs could be seen in proximity. There was another small stream that we crossed bare foot. It was very shallow and could be crossed easily. Crossing the stream brought us near to the base of the Three Cliffs. We un-mounted our rucksacks and spent some time in taking snaps with the Three Cliffs in the background. The stones and rocks here had a tinge of yellow and red color. The color was probably due to sedimentation and the algae, planktons etc growing in that area.

It was time to move now and pass through the tunnel to the other side of the Three Cliffs. Actually the tunnel beneath the Three Cliffs remains submerged in sea water during high tide and it was only visible during low tide. The beauty of the rocks, the tunnels etc could only be seen and appreciated in low tide. We mounted our rucksacks and started walking towards the tunnel. Due to the slime and planktons, it was very slippery out there. Moving slowly and gradually and crossing ankle high water we reached under the Three Cliffs. We were at the Tunnel. We spent some time there and took some snaps. The view was just picture perfect. It was an amazing feeling. We had climbed on top of the Three Cliffs and crossed it from the base within 24 hours After spending sometime there we crossed the tunnel to move towards the beach. On the other side of the Three Cliffs we saw some rock climbing enthusiasts climbing the Cliffs. It's nice to see these people ascend the Cliffs using their props and muscle power.

The sea was inviting us and had brought out the inner child within all of us. We kept our rucksacks on the beach away from the sea water and ran towards the sea. The sea water was cold, but the effervescence of our enthusiasm had kept us warm. We started enjoying in the sea, swimming, bathing, splashing sea water over each other and trying out all sorts of water sports. We enjoyed the Sun and the Sea. We saw people leaving the shallow waters and swimming in the deep sea as well. We could also see small boats and yachts.

After some time enjoying in the sea we were a bit tired. We were all drenched and now wanted to change clothes. Unfortunately we could not find any changing room around. So I and Gilu headed towards a lonely rock so that we could change clothes in its shade. While we changed clothes, Vishi and his friend were still enjoying in the sea. We squeezed the water out of the clothes and finally packed them as well in our rucksacks. Vishi and his friend also finally finished their water sports in the sea. We all met each other after sometime. Now was the time to carry our rucksacks and start the uphill journey and then head back towards Swansea. Little did we know then that the return journey would again be a bit of a tedious task.
